Newborn Session Preparation Guide

Congrats on the arrival of your new little one! The first few days of baby’s life are so precious and magical- it’s an honor to be able to freeze these special moments for you. Here are a few tips that will help us to get the best pictures possible!

•   I highly recommend booking your newborn session as early as three months prior to your approximate delivery date. That gives me enough time to fully customize a newborn session just for you
   

•  The best time for newborn pictures is in the first 5-14 days for those squishy, womb-like poses so make sure you notify me ASAP when baby has arrived to book your time.
   

•  A typical newborn session can take anywhere from 2-4 hours- that includes as much time as needed for feedings as well as soothing and getting baby into a nice deep sleep. Feel free to bring along a snack/drink if you think you’ll get hungry during the shoot.
   

•   Safety is my top priority when handling your baby. For this I will have Mom/Dad be my “spotter” or extra set of hands off and on throughout the session.
   

•  Plan to feed baby just prior to leaving home or as soon as you arrive. Full bellies mean sleepy babies!
   

•  Parents should dress in layers as the house will be a balmy 84 degrees in order to keep baby comfortable and sleepy in his/her birthday suit! (Think tropical climate!)
   

•  Bring a pacifier if you have one
   

•   Try to keep baby awake 1-2 hours prior to our session to help ensure a sleepy baby. That being said we know this can be tough to do so don’t stress about it!
   

•  Dress baby in loose fitting clothing for travel to avoid lines left from tight clothing- a simple sleeper is best.
   

•  If your session includes family/sibling shots we will do siblings at the beginning and then I will ask your partner to take the older child out of the studio area to keep things calm and quiet for capturing the best images possible of your new little one.
   

•   Many props and perfectly sized little outfits are available but if there are certain colors or themes you like or if you had something special you wanted to include just let me know :)
